It is an exciting time for residents of Uxbridge. Last week, the first cohort arrived at the township from the Family Medicine Resident Program. As part of the program that was announced last year, medical residents from the University of Toronto will complete their two-year medical training in Uxbridge and open their own clinic and build their own practice of about 250 patients while working closely with the Uxbridge Hospital to provide excellent care.

The Durham Regional Police welcomed their new officer last week. Ko is a two-year-old German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix and had been training extensively with Constable Marissa Gallipo and now the two are ready to patrol the streets of the Durham region.

According to Ko’s bio, he grew up in Spain and he is as big-hearted as they come. When Ko isn’t chasing bad guys, he and Marissa are playing fetch at the park and his favorite toy is either a rope or possibly a pillow.

Canadian Tire announced an unspecified number of corporate layoffs. Canada’s garage is one of the only remaining department stores in Canada after the Hudson’s Bay Company went under just last month.

The company says that the layoffs are all part of a restructuring. The first Canadian tire opened in Toronto in 1927 and at its peak expanded to nearly 1,700 stores. The layoffs can be considered somewhat of a shock as the retail giant had a solid first quarter and is set to announce the results of their second quarter.
