Expect Some delays in Scugog for the next little bit.
The Scugog line 4 bridge is being replaced, and it is happening sooner than expected, for cheaper than expected. The bridge was supposed to be replaced in 2027 but the project is starting today.
The original price tag for the bridge was 1 million dollars but that has been cut by more than half with a price tage of just over 400 thousand dollars.
While the bridge is being replaced, Scugog line 4 will be closed between gray sideroad and Marsh Hill Road. The whole project should take roughly 2 weeks, weather permitted.
One man from Port Perry has been charged with impaired driving while in Port Hope.
The Northumberland OPP received a complaint around 9 o’clock Thursday night about a possible impaired driver on County road 28.
The police were able to pull over the pick up truck and the driver was taken to a local station for a continued investigation.
Ian Williams of Port Perry now faces 1 count of operation of a vehicle while impaired and one count of operation with blood alcohol level over 0.08.
The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and Williams had his licences suspended for 90 days.

According to the Fraser Institute’s findings in 2024 Canadians spent more of their income on taxes at just over 42 percent than they did on housing, clothing and food combined.
The study takes into account all taxes at the federal provincial and municipal level and even factors in what the average household pays in tax for things like cigarettes and Alcohol.
After everything was tallied up in 2024 a Canadian household earning 114 thousand dollars a year paid just over 48 thousand dollars in taxes.
