The Durham district school board is canceling a planned childcare expansion.

The project was announced back in 2021 when the province committed 1.6 million dollars to develop the new facility in Sunderland.

After the planning stages of the project the funding was short, and the province again stepped up increasing funding to 2 million dollars, which still left the project 3.5 million short to get off the ground.

The cancellation of the project will not affect  the early care late pick up program.

It was day 2 of the first ministers meeting in Cottage country yesterday, and the topic between the primers was a pipe line built with Ontario Steel. Which would support 2 of the dominant industries in Canada.

Ontario Primer Doug Ford was one of 3 Primers to support the Idea along with Alberta Primer Danielle Smith and Saskatchewan premier Scott Moe.

The primers will wrap up their 3 day retreat today in Muskoka.
