Georgina residents will have the opportunity to meet local Olympian Chloe Daniels this weekend. Daniels was part of the Canadian Olympic Women’s Rugby 7 team that placed second at the tournament in Paris. The silver medalist will be at the Merck October 12th from 1 to 3pm. Daniels is now the vice-captain of the team and she will meet with fans, take pictures, sign autographs, and share her story about her journey from Georgina to the Olympic podium.
Ontario police continue to investigate a series of murders that happened last week involving a woman that police are calling an alleged serial killer. Over a three-day span last week, three people were killed in three different incidences, one in Hamilton, one in Niagara Falls, and one in Toronto. Police believe that the suspect was responsible for all three murders. By Friday, three different police forces announced that they had charged a 30-year-old Toronto woman with murder. facing second-degree murder charges in Toronto and first-degree murder charges in Niagara Falls as well as Hamilton. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Southeast Asia this week. Justin Trudeau will be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit on October 10th and 11th. At the summit, the Prime Minister hopes to advance Canadian trade ties to the region and hopes to find a political solution when it comes to the violence in the Middle East. According to recent data, the West’s reputation has taken a hit in Muslim countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, regions that tend to be more pro-Palestine than side with Israel.
