You will have to slow down in Sunderland going forward. The Township of Brock and the Regional Municipality of Durham announced that they will be posting a 40 kmph speed limit on Regional Road 10 from Sunderland Meadow Drive to Highway 712. The speed limit signs were originally supposed to be posted earlier this week, but that was postponed because of unfavourable weather conditions. The hope is that by reducing the speed limit, our roads will be safer.
Ontario health officials have confirmed that a child in the province has died from rabies after being exposed to a bat. According to Dr. Malcolm Locke, who is the leading medical officer for the Haldim and Norfolk Health Unit, said that the child woke up one morning and there was a bat in the room. Because the parents did not see any signs of a bite or scratch, they did not seek medical attention. There have been less than 30 documented rabie-related deaths in Canada since 1924, however, according
to Locke, rabies in the bat population is increasing every year. You may see a decrease in your car insurance the next time you renew. According to new data from the Insurance Bureau of Canada, insurance claims are on the decline, and that is mostly because vehicle thefts are also dropping. Across Canada from January to June, car theft insurance claims amounted to more than $544 million, which seems like a lot of money, but that is actually a 30% drop from the same time period last year.
According to the same data, even though vehicle thefts are down, Canada is still seeing an all-time high of stolen cars.
