Construction of the new Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter is progressing on schedule, with the facility expected to reach substantial completion by the end of 2026. Interior electrical, plumbing and HVAC work is nearly finished, while exterior siding and trim are underway ahead of the next phase of insulation, vapour barrier and drywall installation. Township officials, shelter staff and project partners recently toured the site, where work remains on budget as the two communities move closer to opening the new facility.
Uxbridge seniors will have more opportunities to stay active and connected thanks to $41,250 in annual provincial funding for a new centre at the Sandford Community Centre. The Ux55+ Seniors Active Living Centre aims to reduce social isolation, particularly for older adults living in rural areas, by offering a welcoming space to engage with others and take part in community life. The funding is part of Ontario’s nearly $23-million investment in seniors’ programs across the province.
