The Uxbridge Youth Centre has received a grant from Durham Region to start a new program for local youth. The Youth Pathways to Thriving Futures program will help youth 11 and older learn skills such as getting a job, managing money, cooking and leadership. The programs are free, and youth can register through the Uxbridge Youth Centre website.

Ontario is expected to announce the new Durham Region Chair and CEO around November 1, shortly after the October 26 municipal elections. The province has not said whether current Chair John Henry will stay or if someone new will be chosen. Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe is one name being discussed, but the province has not confirmed any candidates.

A joint traffic safety operation by the OPP and Ottawa Police on September 7 resulted in 46 charges, including six criminal charges and six stunt-driving charges. One driver was caught travelling over 200 km/h, while another motorcycle driver was clocked at 182 km/h and fled from police before being tracked by an OPP aircraft. Police also charged one driver with impaired driving, and the accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
