The Durham Regional Police Service has launched a new marine patrol boat named Genawaabi, at the Port Perry Marina. The new vessel will help officers respond to emergencies, carry out search and rescue missions, and promote safe boating across Durham Region, including providing a dedicated police presence on Lake Scugog for the first time in more than 20 years. The boat was named by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation after the Anishinabemowin word for ‘they watch’ or ‘they observe’ and is expected to serve the region’s waterways for many years.
