The Township of Scugog has closed the Edgerton Road Bridge on Edgerton Road for replacement work until Dec. although the timeline could change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained from either side of the bridge, but through traffic will not be permitted during construction. Township officials say the temporary closure is intended to speed up the project while minimizing disruptions and thanked residents for their patience.

A 23-year-old Aurora man is facing charges after police say he drove a car through a walking path, playground and splash pad at Ajax’s Rotary Park while the area was busy with pedestrians and children. Durham Regional Police say officers tried to stop the vehicle twice but the driver fled before later colliding with an unrelated SUV during another attempted stop. No one was injured, and Ismail Abrahimzada is charged with dangerous operation and failing to stop for police.

Canadians renewing their passports online will no longer have to compete for a limited number of daily application spots. The federal government has removed the 2,000-per-day cap on online passport renewal applications for eligible Canadians whose passports have expired or will expire within six months. In-person and mail applications remain available, while urgent applications still require an in-person visit to a participating Service Canada location.
