The Durham Regional Police Service Board says Deputy Chief Chris Kirkpatrick is retiring and will not return to work after the Board and Kirkpatrick agreed to end his employment. Kirkpatrick was suspended with pay after he allegedly used a Racial slur during a February meeting of the Afro-Caribbean Canadian Internal Support Network, and a Law Enforcement Complaints Agency investigation later found he committed misconduct under Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act. The Board says it is committed to maintaining public trust, holding police leaders to high standards, and creating an inclusive workplace.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge officially opened to traffic Monday, with Gordie Howe’s family making the first passenger vehicle crossing to mark the occasion. Officials say the new span will improve travel and trade between Windsor and Detroit, with passenger tolls set at $8 and commercial truck tolls at $12 per axle.
