The provincial government has asked for the OPP’s involvement in an escalating investigation on the potential for criminal activity regarding OSAP payments at private career colleges. An audit was initiated in August by KPMG in response to growing concerns about OSAP misuse and unusually high numbers of student applications for OSAP tending to be fraudulent, particularly for the reception of grants as opposed to loans. Colleges and Universities Minister Nolan Quinn and the Ford government have been under fire for a lack of oversight and of proper action to look into this suspicious growth rate. Public domain statistics revealed that career colleges accounted for 95 per cent of the year-over-year OSAP growth between 2024 and 2025.

Ottawa Police have observed an increase in thefts from vehicles between July and September, with known cases totalling over 1100 compared to just under 850 in the same period last year. Inspector Ian Hayes, of the West District, noted that “(the) crimes are often preventable” as the service has noticed most cases simply involving suspects checking for unlocked doors with varying degrees of theft that follow: from stolen valuables in-car to even home burglaries, due to garage remotes being left in vehicle compartments.
