The Ottawa Fire Service successfully rescued a trapped cyclist on Monday afternoon, and are thanking a bystander who (wasn’t just a bystander and) helped save the day. The cyclist was pinned underneath an SUV that struck him while biking, and no details were provided on what became of the driver of the SUV. The bystander, who was nearby, quickly got hold of a jack to help alleviate the pressure on the downed cyclist while firefighters were on the way. This helped crews perform a rapid removal of the cyclist upon arrival, who was said by paramedics to be in serious but non-life-threatening condition. Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing as per Ottawa police.

With ongoing delays in the expected delivery of electric buses, OC Transpo said last week that it planned to refurbish some of its aging bus fleet to mitigate service level shortages. The rehabilitation project, estimated at $5.4 million, targets the 30 oldest articulated buses – now approaching 16 years in active revenue service on Ottawa streets – to last for at least another three years, with the hopes of eventually going 50% electric across the whole fleet by fall 2027. The average lifespan of a transit bus is estimated by OC Transpo staff to be 15 years.

The world continues to react as an announcement was made by Dolly Parton’s publicist early on Tuesday morning.
