Barrie Police are reminding drone owners to know the rules before taking flight, noting that drones are considered aircraft and must be operated safely and legally. Transport Canada says drones cannot be flown near airports, over crowds, near emergency scenes, or above 400 feet, and larger drones require registration and a pilot certificate. Police also warn that flying drones near events such as air shows without special authorization can result in significant fines and create serious safety risks.
