A proposed Reach Street development in Scugog is facing calls for a delay, a mayoral candidate is urging council to defer the project and consider it as part of the township’s ongoing official plan review. The proposal could include up to 1,355 homes and buildings up to eight storeys, critics argue it is inconsistent with previous planning decisions and raises concerns about employment lands, infrastructure, healthcare, schools, and transit.
The Township of Uxbridge marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15 with a flag-raising ceremony at the municipal office. Members of council were joined by representatives from the Durham Elder Abuse Network, the Age-Friendly Committee, and township staff to raise awareness about elder abuse and its prevention. In 2025 Uxbridge was officially recognized as an age friendly community.
Four people have been charged after a joint Durham and Toronto police investigation into reported assaults involving a firearm. Police executed search warrants earlier this month, seizing a loaded gun, drugs, ammunition, and cash. Three Oshawa residents and one Clarington resident now face a variety of firearm, assault, and drug trafficking charges anyone with information is urged to come forward.
