Major demolition work has been completed on the Lower Brock Street properties as part of One Horizon Inc.’s Uxbridge Downtown Revitalization Project. As construction moves into the next phase, 34 parking spaces in the municipal lot off Toronto Street North will be closed weekdays from June 9 to June 19 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., reopening each afternoon and remaining available on weekends. The 19 public parking spaces, including two accessible spots, off Main Street North will remain open and unaffected throughout the temporary closure.

Police are reminding residents to stay alert to distraction thefts, a crime that often targets vulnerable members of the community by exploiting kindness and trust. Officers advise people to be cautious of unexpected encounters, avoid accepting gifts or jewelry from strangers, and not allow unfamiliar individuals into their personal space. Residents are also encouraged to keep purses and wallets secure, never leave valuables unattended, and bring expensive purchases directly home rather than leaving them in a vehicle.

A 59-year-old Barrie man and former Air Canada captain has been charged following allegations that he flew more than 900 flights without holding the required airline transport pilot licence. Police say Geoffrey Wall used fraudulent pilot credentials between 2009 and 2025 while serving as a captain on domestic and international routes, earning more than $2.9 million during that time. The charges have not been tested in court, and the investigation began after a Transport Canada regulatory review led to the launch of Project Icarus in January 2026.
