The town of Georgina is reminding residences this week is yard waste collection week, with bi-weekly pickup continuing through early December. There is no limit on the amount of yard waste that can be placed at the curb, provided it is set out in Kraft paper bags or clearly labelled containers. Officials also remind residents that brush must be bundled, measure no more than 90 centimetres in length, and weigh less than 22 kilograms.
Education workers with the York Region District School Board spent Saturday canvassing communities as part of a province-wide campaign calling for increased public education funding. The outreach comes as the board prepares to cut 249 positions, including 201 educational assistant jobs, citing declining student enrolment. Union officials say the cuts will impact student supports and are urging the provincial government to provide additional funding for schools.
Bracebridge OPP are reminding the public that impaired operation laws apply to all types of vehicles after a Kilworthy man was arrested on Friday while allegedly driving a lawn maintenance vehicle. Police say officers were called to Amelia Crescent following concerns about the man’s behaviour, and 57-year-old Frank Doran has been charged with impaired operation and over 80. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice on July 7, 2026, while police are urging anyone who suspects impaired driving to call 9-1-1 immediately.
