Kevin Selwood, York regional police detective, joined Dan Pollard for the Morning Drive to talk about the Race for Plunkett, held annually in memory of Detective Constable Rob Plunkett to support Special Olympics athletes The Torch Run will take place at Riverwalk Commons in Newmarket on August 5.

York Region Public Health is advising people not to swim at four Georgina beaches after recent water tests found elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. The affected beaches are Claredon Beach Park, Joy Marritt Parkette, Riverview Park and Corner Park. Health officials say the remaining monitored beaches are safe for swimming and will continue testing water quality throughout the summer.

York Regional Police has officially welcomed Ahmad Salhia as its newest deputy chief following a swearing-in ceremony attended by family members, friends, mentors, police leaders and community members. Police say Salhia brings years of operational experience, a strong work ethic and an innovative approach to policing. Officials say they are confident he will continue to help keep York Region safe while earning the trust of the community in his new role.
