The Georgina Food Pantry is holding several local food drives this weekend to help stock their shelves ahead of Thanksgiving. Drives will take place Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Zehrs, FreshCo, Sobeys and No Frills, followed by a “Fill an Ambulance” event at Zehrs on Sunday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local volunteers from several community organizations will be collecting donations, with residents also able to support the pantry through online donations.

Georgina is inviting residents to celebrate the community’s diverse cultures at its annual Cultural Festival on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at THE ROC. Families can explore international foods, activities and traditions by picking up a Food and Cultural Experiences Passport and visiting participating vendors throughout the event. The festival offers a chance to discover new cultures close to home while enjoying a day of family-friendly activities.

Police are reminding students and families to keep safety top of mind as the new school year gets underway. The advice includes using crosswalks and looking both ways before crossing, knowing which adults are trusted to provide help or transportation, and seeking an adult rather than recording if you witness a fight. Students are also encouraged to speak up when something feels wrong and ask for help when they make a mistake.
