The Town of Georgina is inviting residents to the official opening of the Terry Fox Memorial Park this Friday at 1 p.m. The new park is located at 50 Thomas Smith Street, west of Woodbine Avenue, off Old Homestead Road. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor and Council, Terry Fox’s brother Fred Fox and members of the Terry Fox Foundation, followed by refreshments and a chance to explore the park.

A 40-year-old Brock man is facing firearm charges after a police investigation in Beaverton. Police say two rifles, magazines and ammunition were found during a search of a residence, after investigators received information that the man was importing unregulated firearm parts from the United States, and they say he did not have a valid firearms licence.  The suspect was arrested without incident and was held for a bail hearing.

Construction is set to restart this month at the Beaverton Lake Homes development off Thorah Concession Road 5 and Osborne Street. The work will include earthworks, sewer work, rock breaking and construction of a stormwater pond, as the site is prepared for up to 220 new homes. The Township of Brock says there will be heavy equipment and truck traffic and is asking residents to be patient and keep a safe distance from the work area.
