The Royal Botanical Gardens has released 52 endangered Blanding’s turtles into its wetlands, the largest release since the program began in 2020. The turtles were raised for two years in a facility near Orillia, helping them grow stronger before being released into the wild. The program is helping rebuild the local population, which has grown from an estimated 20 to 25 turtles in 2016 to just under 100 in 2026.
