Construction is underway at Georgian College’s new downtown Barrie campus as the school renovates space at 55 Mulcaster St into a modern learning hub. The site will eventually serve up to 1,000 students with programs in design, visual arts and emerging technologies, with a phased opening planned for winter 2027. College officials say the new location will give students more hands-on learning opportunities while bringing more student activity to downtown Barrie.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reminding residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites as West Nile virus continues to circulate in the region during the summer months. Residents are encouraged to use insect repellent, wear long clothing, remove standing water and keep window screens in good repair to reduce the risk of infection. While most people who contract West Nile virus do not become sick, the health unit says anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe headache or confusion should seek medical care.

York Region and Ornge have signed a permanent agreement to keep using the emergency air ambulance helipad at the York Region Paramedic Services site in East Gwillimbury. The helipad has been in use since July 2024 and has handled more than 90 air ambulance flights after replacing the former landing site at Buttonville Airport. Regional officials say the partnership will help ensure patients can continue to get to specialized hospitals quickly in emergencies.
