National Drowning Prevention Week is underway, with family-friendly public swims and water safety activities taking place at the Georgina Leisure Pool and the MURC. Residents can enjoy a water safety scavenger hunt, trivia, a pledge wall, and giveaways while learning how to help prevent drowning. Three Aurora residents are among six people facing multiple drug and firearms charges following a York Regional Police investigation into alleged cocaine trafficking in York Region and the GTA. During Project Blade, officers executed search warrants at homes in Aurora, Vaughan and Toronto on July 16, seizing suspected cocaine, firearms, cash, vehicles and other items. Police are asking anyone with information to contact York Regional Police or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.

The Town of Newmarket is reminding residents that e-scooters are not permitted on municipal property because the municipality has not opted into Ontario’s e-scooter pilot program. Officials say enforcement is currently focused on education, while York Regional Police are responsible for enforcing rules on roads and sidewalks, as concerns grow over speeding riders and a rise in e-scooter-related injuries. The town is reviewing its micromobility regulations and hopes to introduce updated rules, education and enforcement measures by next summer.
