The Town of Georgina is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Volunteer Award of Merit, recognizing individuals, teams, groups and businesses that make a difference in the community. Nominations are open until Dec. 31, 2026, and the awards will be presented during National Volunteer Week on April 22, 2027. Residents can submit a nomination online and learn more on the town of georgina website. 

York Region is making school zones safer this summer by adding new road markings at nine schools, with one location in each municipality. The work will take place overnight during July and August and includes new markings to help slow drivers down and make school zones easier to see. The upgrades will be finished before students return to school in September as part of York Region’s Vision Zero safety plan.

Southlake Health is renaming the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre to the Magna Regional Cancer Centre following Frank Stronach’s sexual assault conviction. Magna International requested the change, saying it better reflects the company’s support for the cancer centre. The renaming follows similar decisions by Newmarket, Aurora and other organizations to remove Stronach’s name from local facilities and honours.
