The federal government is extending its fuel tax break on gas, diesel and aviation fuel until Jan. 31, 2027. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne says the move will help families and businesses deal with rising fuel prices. The Conservatives welcomed the extension but said the government should do more to lower fuel costs for Canadians.

The Bank of Canada is keeping its key interest rate at 2.25 per cent for the seventh time in a row. The central bank says Canada’s economy is showing signs of recovery, but inflation has risen to three per cent as energy prices climb and trade tensions continue. Bank officials say they will keep watching the economy closely before deciding whether to raise or lower interest rates.
