Aurora Town Square is celebrating its second anniversary this September with a month of music, dance, food, art, movies and family activities. A major highlight is the Multicultural Festival on Sept. 19, featuring food, performances and activities from different cultures around the world. The month ends Sept. 30 with events for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

York Region residents gathered in Richmond Hill on Aug. 27 for a yearly vigil to remember people who have died from drug poisoning and overdose. The event gave families and community members a chance to share stories, remember loved ones and talk about better support for people who use drugs. The vigil was held ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.

York Regional Police have charged a 47-year-old Whitchurch-Stouffville man after a missing youth was found safely at a local home in April. Christopher Conlon faces several charges, including human trafficking, luring a child and offences involving child sexual abuse and exploitation material. Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact the York Regional Police Counter Exploitation Unit or Crime Stoppers.
