Officials say the suspects may damage roofs after gaining access, then demand thousands of dollars for additional repairs. Residents are urged to avoid unsolicited contractors, get multiple quotes from licensed companies, and report suspected scams to police or crime stoppers.

A flood outlook is in effect for the Lake Simcoe watershed, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected today. More than 100 millimetres of rain could fall, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas and quickly rising rivers and streams. People are urged to stay away from waterways, especially children and pets. The outlook is expected to be in place until noon Tuesday.

Georgina is looking to shine a light on the people and organizations that give their time to help others, with nominations now open for its 2026 Volunteer Award of Merit. The award recognizes local volunteers, groups, teams and businesses, and nominations can be submitted until December 31st. The winners will be honoured at an event next April, as part of National Volunteer Week.
