A commercial fire on Highway 7A between Island Road and Cartwright West Quarter Line was brought under control Monday morning. Multiple fire crews responded, with support from Durham Regional Police, Durham Paramedic Services and Uxbridge firefighters, all crews remained on scene to complete operations. The fire was under control by 9 am and by 10:18 firefighters cleared the scene.

Construction is moving ahead on Uxbridge’s new Aquatic and Sports Complex, with crews beginning to install the building’s structural arches tomorrow. The Township says the project remains on time and on budget, with the new aquatic centre expected to open in spring 2027, followed by construction of the gymnasium. The new gym is expected to open in summer 2027, with demolition of the existing pool planned for March.

Applications for Canadian citizenship certificates are surging, with thousands of Americans seeking citizenship through their Canadian ancestry under a new law. More than 23,000 people have received certificates since the law took effect in December, while the number of applications waiting to be processed has climbed to more than 121,000. The surge is also putting pressure on Canadian archives, as genealogical records are increasingly needed to prove family connections to Canada.
