An electrical fire in the basement of a home on Vandorf Sideroad in Aurora prompted a large emergency response Wednesday evening. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, using tanker trucks to supply water because there were no fire hydrants in the rural area, and no injuries were reported. The fire has been ruled accidental, caused by an electrical issue, and officials reminding residents to keep their home’s electrical systems properly maintained.

York Regional Police are investigating after a residence in Stouffville was struck by gunfire early Thursday morning. Police say several shots were fired from a grey vehicle that fled the area, damaging a second-floor window at the home on Flute Street, near Noah’s Farm Trail. No injuries were reported. Investigators are asking anyone with information, surveillance or dashcam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.

South Simcoe Police are warning residents about a phone scam after a victim received a spoofed call claiming to be from Rogers offering a free iPad. Police say the scammers used the victim’s account to order the device, then collected it from the victim’s home, leaving the victim responsible for the charges. Residents are reminded to verify unexpected offers directly with companies and never share personal information or hand over delivered packages to unknown individuals.
