The Town of Georgina is encouraging rural property owners to apply for a Farm 911 civic address to help emergency crews find farm entrances more quickly during emergencies. The program provides yellow 911 address signs for eligible farm properties, helping improve response times when accidents happen in remote areas. The program is free to apply for, and approved signs are used for emergency access only, not as mailing addresses.

Unionized workers at the Newmarket Public Library have reached a tentative contract agreement with the library, potentially ending months of labour negotiations. The deal, reached on July 17, still needs to be ratified by the 31 CUPE Local 905 members, who had raised concerns about wages, staffing levels and workplace safety. Workers held an information picket earlier this month to bring attention to their concerns while negotiations continued.

Some York Region residents who requested a second blue recycling bin will begin receiving them starting the week of Aug. 3. The additional bins are being provided to households that need more recycling capacity after the switch to bi-weekly collection under Ontario’s producer-led recycling program. Residents who missed the deadline to be included in the August delivery can still apply for a second bin for a future distribution.
