Four people have been charged after police investigated a cheque fraud case in Uxbridge involving a fake cheque worth more than $1.9 million. Police say the suspects moved and withdrew money through several banking transactions, getting away with more than $890,000 before the remaining funds were frozen. All four accused have been released on undertakings, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Financial Crimes Unit.

Concerns are being raised by some Uxbridge residents about traffic delays at the intersection of Toronto Street and Brock Street, with drivers saying left turns and backups are causing more traffic on nearby residential streets. Mayor Dave Barton says the signal changes were made to improve pedestrian safety after several documented near misses and that reducing conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians remains the town’s top priority. The township will collect traffic data this summer to review the changes and determine if any further adjustments are needed.

U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says the delay in opening the Gordie Howe International Bridge is not connected to political donations from the family that owns the Ambassador Bridge. He says both Canada and the U.S. agreed to delay the opening and hopes the bridge will open soon. Hoekstra also says trade talks between the two countries are continuing, but no major progress has been made.
