Canadians are marking the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, a day that celebrates the cultures, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Each year the event is held on the summer solstice, a time of cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous groups. Communities across the country held events and celebrations to recognize Indigenous heritage and achievements.

The Town of Georgina celebrated its first-ever Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the MURC this past weekend, honouring local athletes, builders and teams who have made a lasting impact on sport in the community. The inaugural 2026 inductees were the late Ken Hackenbrook, recognized as a Builder, and Mike Sedore, recognized as both an Athlete and Builder. The evening also featured recognition for the Keswick High School Girls Varsity Hockey Team and included a special appearance by local Olympian Erin Ambrose.

Aurora council is considering ways to better support renters facing renovictions, but has not yet decided whether to create a full enforcement program or start with a smaller pilot project. Councillors agree the issue is important and want to help tenants, but concerns remain about the cost of hiring new staff and how quickly a program could be implemented. The matter is expected to return to council for further discussion tomorrow.
