Runners and walkers will take part in the annual Run for the Diamond fundraiser in Uxbridge this Sunday, featuring 5K and 10K routes that begin and end at Elgin Park. Proceeds from the event will support the new Uxbridge Hospital, helping fund equipment and furnishings for the expanded facility. Temporary road closures will be in effect starting at 7:30 a.m. on several roads near the route, with all roads expected to reopen by about 10 a.m. visit the Uxbridge town website to view the routes

The Township of Scugog is celebrating the 25th Annual Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament, taking place September 10, 2026, at Sunnybrae Golf Club in Port Perry. Since 2004, the tournament has raised more than $250,000 for local youth programs, including camp access, community programming, and bursaries for Port Perry High School students. Organizers are aiming to attract 140 golfers this year to help set a new fundraising record and further support youth initiatives across the township.

Louise Arbour was sworn in Monday as Canada’s 31st Governor General during a ceremony in Ottawa, where she called for the “peaceful management” of differences and warned against growing polarization in society. In her first speech as the King’s representative, the former Supreme Court justice also highlighted the importance of strong democratic institutions, free expression, and caution in the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.
