Drivers in Georgina can expect some delays on Ravenshoe Road as York Region begins road maintenance work this week. Crews will be applying a microsurfacing treatment between Weir’s Sideroad and Concession Road 5, a cost-effective process that repairs minor surface defects and helps extend the life of the roadway. The road will remain open, but traffic will be reduced to a single lane with traffic control personnel on site, and motorists are being asked to plan for extra travel time while the work is completed.

As Pride Month begins, Georgina Mayor Margaret Quirk is encouraging residents to celebrate the diversity and contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. In a statement recognizing Pride Month, Quirk highlighted the importance of creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive communities, while noting that June commemorates the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a pivotal event in the fight for Queer rights. York Region is also reaffirming its commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout the month with education and awareness initiatives.

The Town of Newmarket is celebrating a major sustainability milestone with plans to install heat pumps in more than 1,000 new homes as part of the Shining Hill development. Mayor John Taylor says the initiative will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, and support the town’s long-term environmental goals. The project is believed to represent the largest committed residential heat pump installation in Canada and could serve as a model for future communities across the country.
