Halloween is behind us and Keswick residents are already preparing for Christmas. The Optimist Club of Keswick are running their 10th annual toy drive this month, where they will collect unwrapped toys and cash donations to make sure that every child in Georgina has something to open on Christmas Day. Registration to receive a toy for Christmas is already ongoing, and Jennifer Carter, who is the vice president of the club, expects the toy drive to help over 700 children in the area. The Ford government had their fall economic update earlier this week, and there was some good news and some bad news. The good news is that next year, you will receive some extra money at some point, courtesy of the provincial government. The bad news is that the housing situation in the province is behind schedule. The Ford government’s goal is to build 1.5 million new homes in the province by 2031. The 2024 budget predicted that 87,000 new homes would at least have been started, but after the fall economic update, that number has dropped to 81,000.
With the biggest music star in the world getting ready to come to Canada for a series of shows in Toronto and Vancouver, hotels and Airbnbs alike have jacked up their prices. Hotel rooms in downtown Toronto that usually go for around $240 a night are being listed well over $2,000. The price of hotels are so high that people that live nearby have even drawn up legal documentation so that they can exchange room and board for a single night for a ticket to the show.
