Georgina received a boost to its job market thanks to an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. With the grant, the Georgina Working Centre launched a new employment initiative to help locals find meaningful careers. The project was officially introduced on October 11th at the Lincoln-Sutton. York Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulrooney was on hand to help make the announcement, saying that the initiative is great and will help foster growth and resiliency in our community.
The Georgina Working Centre continues to be dedicated to breaking down barriers to employment and helping residents build careers. The Ontario government is investing over $12 million to help the regional municipality of Durham build over 27 transitional housing units in Beaverton to support those that are at risk of homelessness. The housing project will also provide access to wraparound services like site meals at dining halls, as well as support for mental health and addiction. On top of the 27 transitional housing units that are being developed in Beaverton, the investment will also help support 18 affordable housing units that will go up in Whitby as well.
