Ontario may require approval for new bike lanes, inflation falls to 1.6%, and Brock waste site to close temporarily.

The Regional Municipality of Durham announced that a pair of waste management facilities will temporarily close. That includes the facility in Brock. The closure is due to the installation of a new scale. The process will take about 5 days, and the facility will close on October 31st and reopen on November 5th at 8am. You are being encouraged to make alternative arrangements if you use the facility, including making the drive to Scugog.

Municipalities in Ontario will need the Provincial Government’s stamp of approval before putting in any new bike lanes that would reduce lanes of vehicle traffic. The announcement was made yesterday by Ontario Transportation Minister Prabhmeet Sikaria. Nothing is finalized yet, but the province is currently putting together new legislation that would make this law. Sikaria also said that the province will request data from municipalities when it comes to bike lane projects initiated in the last 5 years. The inflation rate in Canada fell to 1.6% in September according to Statistics Canada.

This comes just one month after the Bank of Canada met its inflation target of 2% back in August. Stats Can says that this is the lowest year-over-year increase since February of 2021. The price of gasoline was a big factor driving down inflation. In September, gas fell by almost 11 cents on a yearly basis. Even though inflation has come down past the bank’s target, Stats Can says that the prices are still high when it comes to food and shelter.
